| The Azienda Agricola
Doria di Montalto has belonged to the family Doria for many
generations: since 1800, when the Oltrepò Pavese was
still part of the Reign of Piedmont; and it was during the year
1800 that the family Doria purchased the first piece of vineyard
and started this family adventure. Nowadays the winery is run
by Andrea and Davide Doria, who represent the last generation;
they joined the family business back in 1996, when they were
still very young, due to the loss of their father Adriano Doria.
At that time they were (and they still are) supervised by their
mother Giuseppina Sassella Doria and well supported by the Agronomist
Daniele Manini. Inside the total property, 120 acres wide, 80
acres are dedicated to the vineyards. A big focus, especially
handled by the Agronomist, is put in the research of the old
traditions (both of the family and the area); thanks to this
research, a few years ago, they came up with the idea of aging
the Barbera wine in Italian chestnut barrels following the ancient
tradition of the Oltrepò Pavese. Today they are the sole
producers in Italy (but probably in the world) using chestnut
for aging the Barbera and the excellent results are giving a
growing popularity to this family and to their wines especially
in the US market.
